First phase of Project Gigabit Cumbria complete
Viberoptix, part of the Fibrus Group, is celebrating the completion of the first phase of Project Gigabit in Cumbria, which has brought Full Fibre broadband to more than 37,700 homes and businesses across some of the county’s hardest-to-reach communities.
As Fibrus’ delivery partner, Viberoptix has played a key role in rolling out network infrastructure across Cumbria, overcoming the challenges of rugged terrain, protected heritage sites and tourism-related restrictions that make the region one of the most complex areas in the UK for broadband deployment.
The milestone marks a significant step in the delivery of the UK Government’s Project Gigabit programme, which is extending gigabit-capable broadband to communities less likely to benefit from commercial investment. The rollout forms part of a £150 million government investment, with the wider programme set to reach more than 53,500 homes and businesses across the county.
Behind the achievement is the expertise, dedication and specialist skills of Viberoptix’s planning, civils, fibre and delivery teams. From network design and route planning to traffic management, construction and fibre installation, colleagues have worked together to deliver vital digital infrastructure across some of Cumbria’s most remote and challenging locations.
The achievement comes shortly after we were named Infrastructure Builder of the Year at the Connected Britain Awards, recognising the team’s ability to deliver complex infrastructure projects safely, efficiently and on schedule.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in reaching this significant milestone and helping transform connectivity across Cumbria.
